Fun Facts.

          -Your perfect shot starts here.

Dear Hoopers,

When I was a little tyke I loved to play basketball. I loved to dribble, I loved to pass, but most of all I LOVED TO SHOOT! I used to go down to the Recreation Center in my hometown of Carroll , Iowa and hoist up shots all the time.

HOIST, CAST, FLING, SLING, whatever....literally...whatever it took to get the ball up to the hoop. I had the absolute worst shooting form a kid could have.

You should have seen it, I used to bend down low to the ground, pull the ball down low below my waist, even down below my knees, swing it around and literally THROW it up there with all my might. It WAS NOT a pretty sight to behold.

HOWEVER, I WENT ON TO BE.... and still am today, the LEADING 3 point percentage shooter in Division I basketball in the State of Iowa history.

Many of you know upon return to my home state of Iowa in 2007, after a successful 12 year professional coaching career in Europe, I became Head Coach of the Iowa Energy. What more could an Iowa boy ask for?! A dream come true. Still living the dream...

When I first got back to Iowa, however - one of the first things I did was attend one of the huge AAU tournaments in Des Moines .

A FEW QUICK OBSERVATIONS:

  • I was really impressed with all the organization, teams, fans, and the volunteer coaches that were at this event. It sure wasn't like that when I was a kid. If you are involved in this in any way, you should be commended for your effort.
  • I could NOT believe how BAD the fundamentals were of the players I was watching....especially SHOOTING!

That was all it took for me to GET INTO ACTION.

I immediately decided that I was going to run some camps that TAUGHT shooting and all the drills necessary for kids to become great shooters. Basically, teach what I have been taught and teach what I did to enable me to win a High School State Championship AND be a 4 year starter at the University of Northern Iowa .

Spending an extensive amount of time in Europe also enabled me to witness first hand the methods and drills they are using over there to become such great shooters.

Put quite simply they are teaching proper fundamentals at an earlier age and also spending more time in the gym (read: NOT gallabanting from tourney to tourney racking up trophies and reinforcing BAD shooting skills) than we are in America. My mission is to change that right quick.

For Pete's Sake! Basketball STARTED here. Soccer started THERE. They can have Beckham. Sure, the Brits can speak proper English. But here in the States? We need to step it up starting PROPER SHOOTING! The USA has GOT to lead the world in basketball swagger. Hoopers at the youngest levels are encouraged to break the chain and help turn the tide.

How? Start here. Start now. Come to any or all of our camps and academies...

CAMPS & ACADEMIES

The camps and academies we instruct have taught me a lot. It is a funny thing how much you learn by teaching. I have now worked with hundreds and hundreds of players on shooting and have seen just about everything you can see and KNOW how to correct it in an easy and understandable way.

We have filled up each and everyone one of our previous camps and academies. Do NOT miss your shot!

Enrollment is VERY limited to ensure great teaching.

Most Sincerely,

Nick Nurse

What People are Saying About NNE Camps & Academies:

"Amazing Camp! I coach two youth AAU teams and my entire roster from both teams attended, as well as my own three kids, and they all loved it! Nick does an outstanding job of teaching shooting in such an easy to follow way that kids of all ages can understand. After that he has the campers apply the techniques they learned to numerous highly effective and fun drills. He and his coaches do great job of keeping it moving and keeping it fun and time just seems to fly by for the kids. The facilities were top notch also. As a coach, I was able to pick up countless drills by observing that I plan to use at my own practices. The fundamentals are easy to learn and easy to remember and as long as they keep practicing them, they will last them a lifetime. Thank you very much to Nick and his coaches!"

"My son is in the 8th grade and currently a multi-sport athlete with baseball all summer, football in the fall, and basketball starting two days after football ends, so as you can imagine, he is a bit rusty to start his season. He scored an average of 5 points his first two games, attended your camp on Saturday, and scored 20 of the teams 25 points his third game last night. I could tell his confidence was back! Now that is a successful camp! Thanks!"

"My daughter (a 9th grader) really enjoyed your camp. Her first practice following the camp had her coaches (freshman, JV and Varsity) scratching their heads and wondering what in the world she has done. Last Saturday she scored 30 points (a career high for her) in a freshman game in which most were 3-point shots. Since your camp she has been given more minutes during the varsity games. It has given her confidence in every aspect of the game. Thank you so much for your time."

"Walt Jacobsen and I had 2 girls attend (his daughter Brooke and my daughter Dani). Both had issues. Dani's shot was a throw with the elbow way out and Brooke shot everything with two hands. At practice Thursday night after your 1st session, the results were very noticeable. Both girls were shooting properly and were very eager to show the other girls what they had learned. Both girls continue to shoot well and improve. I think they are having more fun because they seem to be making more shots. We just wanted to let you know we saw immediate improvement."

"Previously, I have enrolled Eric in a local camp led by the ------, and found your camp to be much more personal. I appreciate that you took time to work with the kids on an individual, one-on-one basis. To me, that proves your dedication to improving the skills of each camper instead of just trying to make a buck. Although what you taught sounds very basic and simple, it is a skill the kids really need to work on. Your "pill" has been a tremendous help as Eric continues to work on his shooting form. Eric was thrilled to be called the Alaskan Assassin while at camp. We had to look it up when we returned home. Thanks for offering a much-needed skills training camp."

***UPDATE***

Nick,
I meant to say this earlier, but time flies by me sometimes. Eric had a great time at the Point Guard Academy.  He was thrilled when you placed him in the high school group for certain drills.  I really appreciate your help to straighten out his shot.  He is hoping that if you offer the Point Guard Academy again!

Eric is a kid with some athletic talent, but needs a coach to help develop that talent.  Right now in Anchorage, the focus of the youth coaches is not at developing their players, but collecting players that already have skill so they can win.

Fortunately, Eric has been picked up by one of those teams, but it is killing me to see no skill development drills at practice.  We have been lucky to find a retired high school coach willing to work with Eric a few times a month with his ball handling.  Eric was very energized after your camp and anxious to get back to work with this coach when we got back to Alaska.

Thanks for offering the Point Guard Academy.  Thank you and Nate for personally running the camp.

"I was very impressed with what Jordan learned and Jordan practices his shots everyday after school. I have already seen a big improvement."
